In a study of 2000 selfies on Instagram, La Trobe University’s Senior Lecturer in Experimental Neuropsychology Dr. Annukka Lindell found our left sides are more attractive than our right.
According to new research, led by Kelsey Blackburn and James Schirillo from Wake Forest University, our left cheek shows a greater range of emotion than the right, which observers rate as more pleasing to the eye.
But, this isn’t an entirely new concept at all.
Throughout history, artists have opted to highlight left sides – including Da Vinci’s Mona Lisa.
I have personally discovered turning 60° toward the camera and introducing more angles, highlights the cheekbones, and makes the subject of the photo appear more stunning.
So the next time you are trying to make a good impression, give your left cheek a chance to do the magic.
